Aaron Rodgers is checking out his potential new employer.

The 41-year-old quarterback and four-time NFL most valuable player is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, a source confirmed to TribLive.

The Steelers made Rodgers a contract offer when free agency began 10 days ago, and they have been waiting for the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback to make a decision. Rodgers also is weighing an offer from the New York Giants. He also is contemplating retirement after 20 NFL seasons, the last two with the New York Jets.

The visit Friday is the first indication that Rodgers is serious about the Steelers’ offer.

Rodgers became a free agent when the Jets released him with a year left on his contract. The Steelers were left without a returning quarterback when Justin Fields accepted a two-year, $40 million offer from the Jets.

Russell Wilson remains a free agent, with the Giants and Cleveland Browns showing interest in signing him. Wilson, though, said his preference is to return to the Steelers, who have kept him in limbo while awaiting an answer from Rodgers.

The Steelers re-signed Mason Rudolph after he spent a season with the Tennessee Titans. He is expected to be the No. 2 quarterback, although he could move up in the pecking order if the Steelers don’t add Rodgers or Wilson.
