A day after Robert Morris lost Amarion Dickerson to the NCAA transfer portal, teammate and Horizon League Player of the Year Alvaro Folgueiras also entered his name in the portal, coach Andy Toole told TribLive.
Folgueiras, a sophomore, was the Colonials’ second-leading scorer (14.1 points per game) and leading rebounder (9.1) during the team’s run to the Horizon League regular-season and tournament championships and the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He also was third in assists (111) and second in blocks (41) and recorded 13 double-doubles and four games of 20 or more points.
In the 90-81 loss to No. 2-seeded Alabama on Friday, Dickerson and Folgueiras scored 25 and 15 points, respectively, while Folgueiras added 10 rebounds in the Colonials’ first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
A native of Malaga, Spain, Folgueiras spent the past two seasons at Robert Morris after playing at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., where he averaged 8.6 points and 7.6 rebounds during the 2022-23 season.
He was the only Robert Morris player to appear in all 31 games during the 2023-24 season, but he made only six starts while averaging 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds.
After the loss to Alabama, Toole said he was unsure of the composition of the 2025-26 Robert Morris roster in light of NIL and immediate eligibility for transfers.
“This is where you have something great that’s gone on for a long time, the last couple months, and then all of a sudden, now it becomes in jeopardy,” he said. “That’s the state of the game and the way that it works, but certainly not something you look forward to as a coach.”
