Charges filed in McKees Rocks homicide investigation

Allegheny County Police have filed charges in connection with a December homicide investigation in McKees Rocks.

In a post on Facebook, police said they were notified of a shooting at approximately 9:19 p.m. Dec. 6 at Second Street and Broadway Avenue. Once at the scene, first responders found an adult male with gunshot wounds.

That man, later identified as Floyd Wilson, 51, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

During the investigation, detectives identified a vehicle through surveillance video believed to be involved in the shooting. After obtaining a search warrant and seizing the vehicle, it was determined to belong to Thomas Smith, 44. Police said they recovered a firearm inside the vehicle.

Detectives determined Smith was responsible for the shooting through additional witness interviews, police said, and he’s currently in the Allegheny County Jail.

Smith is facing multiple charges: homicide, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license and persons not to possess a firearm, police said.


Bus driver shortage causes flexible instruction day

The Hopewell Area School District announced it will have a flexible instruction day Thursday — due to a bus driver shortage.

Located in Beaver County, the change applies to all students in the district, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.


1 injured in Polish Hill motorcycle crash

A motorcycle crash injured one person early Thursday morning near the Bigelow Boulevard side of the Bloomfield Bridge, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

The crash happened at around 6:34 a.m. on the inbound side of the bridge in Polish Hill.

The bridge has been shut down in both directions while police investigate the crash.
