Goaltender Sergei Murashov made 32 saves on 35 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday.
The result was Murashov’s first loss at the American Hockey League level this season as his record dropped to 11-1-0.
Forwards Atley Calvert and Valtteri Puustinen each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (37-19-7-1, 82 points) which slipped below Charlotte (38-20-3-3, 82 points) for second place in the Atlantic Division.
Penguins forward Tristan Broz was suspended for the game due to a cross-checking incident during a 5-3 road win against the Checkers on Friday. Due to Broz’s absence, the Penguins dressed an irregular lineup of 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

Making his professional debut, goaltender Thomas Gale made 32 saves on 34 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 win against the Bloomington Bison at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.
With the victory, Wheeling (38-23-3-1, 82) secured a playoff berth.
Forwards Matty De St. Phalle and Jordan Martel as well as defenseman Mats Lindgren all scored goals for the Nailers.
The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Reading Royals on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
