One person was killed following a four-vehicle crash that shut down the Parkway East inbound for several hours early Monday, according to state police.
The crash was reported near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Pittsburgh at 1:50 a.m. Traffic was stopped for a while before the tunnel as investigators examined the crash and crews cleared the scene.
Police said a silver Corvette being driven by Donald Lewis was speeding on the highway when it slammed into a Honda Civic being driven by Landon Ray. The collision pushed the Honda into two other vehicles.
Ray was extricated from the car and taken to a hospital, where police said he died. Authorities did not release ages or hometowns for either Ray or Lewis.
Other motorists were treated at the scene, police said.
The highway reopened around 5:45 a.m., according to Steve Cowan, PennDOT press officer.
About 85,000 vehicles use that stretch of highway daily, according to PennDOT traffic maps.
