The Penn Hills Library, 1037 Stotler Road, offers a variety of programs for all ages.

Regular operating hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The library is closed on Sundays.
Registration is required for the following programs unless otherwise indicated; however, the following teen programs do not require registration. To register for any of the programs, visit the website and click on the events tab to view an interactive calendar.
CHILDREN
• Baby Rhyme Time (birth to age 5): 3:30 to 4 p.m. every Monday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday. Bond with your little one and meet other parents and caregivers while doing so. We will explore the fun of rhythm and rhymes, bounces and books to support early learning. Best for pre-walkers and crawlers, but all are welcome. No registration is required.
• Children’s Cinema: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (all ages): 1 to 3 p.m. April 26. Join us for a movie, snack and craft. This month’s movie is “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” a 2024 action adventure comedy, rated PG, based on the popular video game series. Registration is required.
• Maker Lab: Bird Feeders (ages 6-11): 5 to 5:45 p.m. April 29. Participants will learn how to use different machines and supplies to assemble a bird feeder to hang outdoors. Registration is required.
TEENS (grades 6-12)
The library offers a variety of books in its Teen Space about college preparation, essay writing, SAT and ACT preparation, and school subjects that can be checked out at any time. Teens also have free access to tutoring help at tutor.com using their library card; instructors are available on a wide variety of school subjects. Teens also have access to language learning resources such as Duolingo and Mango with ther library card. For details, stop by the Teen Space.
• Audiobook Club: Stained-Glass Art: 1 to 3 p.m. May 3. Create faux stained-glass art while listening to an audiobook of your choice.
• Teen Space Decorating: Window Decals: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 6. Help us decorate the Teen Space with seasonal art.
• Explore the Maker Space: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 9 and 23. Join us twice a month to play around with our button maker, Cricut machine and more.
• Gender and Sexualities Alliance: Hunt for a Killer: 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 13. Join us once a month in this safe, inclusive environment where everyone is welcome to be themselves. This month, attendees will solve a mystery in a box.
•Learn Canva: 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 20. Learn the basics of Canva, a website and app that lets you create custom graphics.
• Make a Mini Apothecary: 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 21. Turn a tin can into a decorative witchy library.
• Field Day: 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 28. Join us for outdoor games and fun.
ADULTS
• Craft Exchange: 10 a.m. to noon April 26. Drop by and exchange your extra fabric, yarn, paint, paper and other craft items with others. Please make sure the items are in good condition.
• Tribute to Nikki Giovanni: 2 to 3 p.m. April 26. Pittsburgh native Kim Robinson will present a poetic experience showcasing the life and legacy of Nikki Giovanni, one of the world’s best-known Black poets who died in December at the age of 81. Registration is required.
• Midday Movie: “A Complete Unknown”: 3 to 5 p.m. May 3. Join us for a showing of the 2024 film, rated R, starring Timothée Chalamet. Popcorn will be provided. Registration is required.
• Accessible Crafts: Shrinky Dink Keychains: 1 to 2 p.m. May 5. This craft program lets patrons of all abilities try out a new art activity. No registration is required.
•Make Plastic Mats: 10:30 a.m. to noon May 10. Learn how to crochet plastic bags into a mat for donation to a person experiencing homelessness. Registration is required.
•An Intrusion of UFOs, Bigfoot & Mysterious Happenings in Pa.: 1 to 2 p.m. May 10. Stan Gordon will discuss some of the classic mysterious incidents — UFO, Bigfoot, strange creature sightings — that have taken place in the Greater Pittsburgh region and throughout Pennsylvania. Registration is required.
•Author Talk with Dr. Edda Fields-Black: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 12. Edda L. Fields-Black will discuss her groundbreaking book, “Combee: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid and Black Freedom during the Civil War.” A descendant of raid participants, Fields-Black will unveil Tubman’s command of spies and pilots, leading a raid that liberated hundreds and shaped American history. Registration is required.

•Mesoamerican Mythology: From Feathered Serpents to Animate Architecture: 6 to 7 p.m. May 22. This talk will provide a brief overview of Mesoamerican mythology, with a special focus on the Aztec and Maya civilizations. Registration is required.
•Seed Starting Workshop: 6 to 7 p.m. May 27. Learn how to start and care for seedlings. Registration is required.
ALL AGES
• Community Fridge Restock: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to noon Fridays. The fridge and freezer are stocked with fresh vegetables, meal kits, milk and dairy products, juice and more. The pantry shelves include canned goods, snacks and breakfast items, as well as menstrual products and diapers.
• Puzzle Exchange: 10 to 11 a.m. May 3. Bring in an old puzzle and find a new one at our puzzle exchange.
• Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration: 1 to 3 p.m. May 17. This program in partnership with WQED will feature a performance by the Organization of Chinese Americans and a screening of the PBS documentary “Asian Americans.” There also will be various craft activities.
• Diapers and Books Giveaway: 4 to 6 p.m. May 21. Free diapers and menstrual products will be distributed during the library’s Community Fridge restock. Visit them in the cafe to learn more and get some products to take home.
