Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley hung out and golfed with President Donald Trump over the weekend.

The internet reacted.

In response, Barkley, also a former Penn State star player, told people to “get out my mentions with all this politics.”

Their hangout occurred a day before the Philadelphia Eagles’ scheduled visit to the White House to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl win over the the Kansas City Chiefs. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie previously said the White House visit was “optional” for members of last season’s Super Bowl-winning team, according to Sports Illustrated.

Barkley and Trump were shown at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., with multiple “Make America Great Again” hats on a nearby table, according to photos on social media, Sports Illustrated reported. They were also seen disembarking the Marine One helicopter in New Jersey.

Trump approached the reporters assembled at the airport, saying, “What a nice guy” about Barkley, CNN reported.

He added: “I wanted to race him, but I decided not to do it.” The pair later boarded Air Force One.

Barkley’s appearance with Trump came days after Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts dodged a question about whether he would appear at the White House with the team, according to CNN.

Hurts didn’t answer the question while he was on the red carpet for the 2025 TIME 100 gala in New York City on Thursday. He responded with the answer, “Um,” and looked around before the interviewer thanked him for his time, the outlet reported.

Barkley defended his time with Trump on the social media platform X.

“lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT. Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago…and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day ,” the post read.

Many people responded with support on X.

A supporter posted: “Bro, I absolutely love that you went, people are so pathetic and are boycotting your jerseys.”

One critic wrote: “So character doesn’t matter to you? Title is all that is important?”
