After four seasons on the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coaching staff, Mike Sullivan is no longer with the organization.
Sullivan’s contract expired at the conclusion of this past season, when he held the title of senior offensive assistant. Sullivan was the team’s quarterbacks coach the previous three seasons and during the final eight games (including playoffs) of the 2023 season called the Steelers’ plays.
Sullivan, 58, has served as an assistant for five NFL teams and had stints as coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants. Though he never held that title with the Steelers, Sullivan took over interim playcalling duties after the Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada in November 2023.
When that season ended, coach Mike Tomlin said he would consider both Sullivan and Eddie Faulkner — who was promoted, by title, to coordinator — for the permanent coordinator gig. But Tomlin ultimately went outside of the organization to hire Arthur Smith as coordinator. Soon after, word broke that the Steelers were hiring Tom Arth as quarterbacks coach. That relegated Sullivan to his modified role.
Over Sullivan’s time in Pittsburgh, the Steelers had six starting quarterbacks.
Sullivan has been on an NFL staff for 20 of the past 23 seasons. He also has seven seasons of college experience, including two at Youngstown State from 1997-98.
