Outfielders have been backing up this season when Courtney Poulich comes to the plate for Robert Morris.

Poulich, a Mt. Pleasant alum, has been bashing softballs at a record rate for the Colonials.

The outfielder smacked two solo home runs in Saturday’s 5-4 loss at Cleveland State to set a program record for homers in a season with 12.

Poulich is a reigning Under Armour Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, earning the honor after going 5 for 11 with two homers, two doubles, three runs and five RBIs in three games against Purdue Fort Wayne.

Robert Morris also set a team record for homers in a season with 41. The previous mark stood for 17 years.

Baseball

Eastern Michigan: Junior Ty Stecko (Norwin) hit his team-high and career-best ninth home run of the season in a 10-9 loss to Bowling Green.

He added two hits and two RBIs in an 8-4 loss in the series finale.

Mercyhurst: Senior Jayden Walker (Norwin) went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run, but the Lakers fell to Wagner, 6-5.

Seniors Landon DiBeradin (Norwin) and Eric Chorba (Norwin) had two hits each, with DiBeradin scoring twice, in a 7-5 victory over Wagner.

Pitt: Grad student Josh Spiegel (Penn-Trafford) and junior Jake Kendro (Norwin) hit back-to-back home runs as the Panthers scored 16 unanswered runs to beat Mercyhurst, 16-6.

Pitt-Greensburg: Junior James Domer became the Bobcats’ all-time leader in hits with 177, passing the previous mark of 176 set by Chris Common (Penn-Trafford) in 2019.

Domer, who is hitting .486, broke the record with a double in a 20-1 loss to Penn State Behrend.

UPG beat the Lions in the first game of a doubleheader, 8-5, as sophomore pitcher Connor Burkey (Hempfield) earned his seventh complete game and seventh win of the season. The win snapped PSB’s 16-game winning streak.

Burkey leads all NCAA Division III pitchers in complete games.

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats (15-18, 9-8 PAC) swept two games from Allegheny.

Freshman Nathan Whiteman went 3 for 5 with two runs, freshman Chuck Fontana (Penn-Trafford) and Kyle Belmont had two hits and two RBIs apiece and grad student Tyler Dancu (Hempfield) picked up the pitching win in an 8-1 win in the opener.

Dylan Schmude scored two runs, and sophomore Lane Golkosky (Mt. Pleasant) Fontana and freshman Brennen Freiwald had a hit and RBI each for SVC (16-18, 10-8).

Seton Hill: Junior leadoff hitter Jack Whalen reached a career milestone with the Griffins with his 100th stolen base.

The Griffins dominated Clarion for a four-game PSAC sweep.

In Game 3, a 15-0 victory, sophomore Jakob Haynes (Penn-Trafford) went 3 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs, and Whalen also homered.

In a 22-0 win in the series finale, senior Matt Frazetta drove in five, and Mark Black and Haynes had four RBIs each for the Griffins (32-12, 18-6), who clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament.

Softball

Clarion: Sophomore pitcher Angelina Pepe (Norwin) pitched six scoreless innings, scattered six hits and did not issue a walk, improving to 3-4 on the season as the Golden Eagles beat IUP, 5-2.

Geneva: Junior pitcher McKenzie Rapp (Penn-Trafford) is 12-6 this season with a 1.67 ERA in 26 appearances. She has 64 K’s and 25 walks in 96 1/3 innings and also has recorded four saves. Twin sister Madison Rapp is hitting .375 with 21 RBIs, and her on-base percentage of .461 ranks second among Geneva’s regulars.

Maine: Freshman shortstop Bailey Snowberger (Norwin) is hitting .265 in 40 starts with 18 runs, seven doubles, a homer and 17 RBIs.

She has hit safely in seven of her last 10 games.

Penn State: Senior Haylie Brunson (Mt. Pleasant) hit a two-run home run, and Penn State set a team record for runs in a season with 291 in a 10-2 win over Maryland.

Brunson smacked another home run in a 10-2 victory over Maryland. She went 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs in a wild, 14-12 win over the Terrapins.

Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore catcher Jessica Dunn was named the AMCC Athlete of the Week. She led the Bobcats to five straight wins as she hit .438 with six runs and three RBIs.

Pitt-Johnstown: Sophomore Isabella DePalma (Derry) homered, junior Jenna Tallman (Latrobe) doubled and drove in two runs, and sophomore Krista Brunson (Mt. Pleasant) had two hits, including a double, in a 10-2 victory over No. 10 IUP.

Robert Morris: Senior Jess Matheny (Southmoreland) hit her sixth home run of the season in a 4-1 victory over Cleveland State.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Josey Michalski (Norwin) had winning hits on both ends of a doubleheader sweep of Waynesburg to keep the Bearcats’ playoff hopes alive.

She ripped a walk-off double in the opener, a 3-2 victory, and had a two-run double in the sixth inning of a 4-2 win in Game 2.

SVC (21-15, 9-9) has won five in a row.

Seton Hill: The Griffins (29-15, 18-10) ended the regular season with a two-game sweep of Edinboro.

Senior Brooklyn Fukushima scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 walk-off win in the first game.

In a 10-0, run-ruled win in Game 2, Fukushima went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and freshman Anna Kalkowski and senior Bre Athey had two RBIs apiece for Seton Hill.

Sophomore Lacey Lynn improved to 11-4 with the pitching win, a one-hit shutout.

Washington & Jefferson: Junior Hannah Allen (Penn-Trafford) hit her 18th double of the season to move into the No. 2 spot among the national leaders in NCAA Division II.

Westminster: Freshman Cheyenne Piper (Ligonier Valley) struck out a career-high 15 and pitched a career-high 16 innings, improving to 13-4 as the Titans outlasted Thiel, 4-3.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: The Great Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs will begin this week, and the Griffins (15-1) will open play in the semifinals.

They will host Wheeling (8-6) at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Seton Hill is a seven-time GMAC finalist.

Women’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: Redshirt senior attacker Skyler Orlowski was named the PSAC West Division Athlete of the Week. She had eight goals and eight assists, with seven ground balls, in wins over Lock Haven and Edinboro.

Men’s volleyball

Penn State: Redshirt senior Will Kuhns (Hempfield) had 10 kills to help the Nittany Lions sweep NJIT, 3-0, in the semifinals of the EIVA Tournament.

Kuhns made the all-tournament team after adding nine kills and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Princeton in the championship. The Nittany Lions won the tournament for the 37th time in program history.

Men’s tennis

Pitt-Greensburg: Junior Michael Opal (Penn-Trafford) was named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team.

The Bobcats made it to the semifinals.

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats fell to Allegheny, 4-0, in the PAC semifinals. That brought an end a historic season for the program where the Bearcats posted a record 16 wins.

Women’s track & field

Edinboro: Junior Bernadette Zukina (Norwin) ran the 400-meter dash in a school-record time of 55.13 seconds for a victory at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.

Zukina also took second in the 200 in 25.25 seconds.

Men’s golf

Geneva: Sophomore Ryan Edwards (Norwin) shot a career-low 73 in the third round of the PAC Championships in Boardman, Ohio.

The score ties him for the fifth-best round in program history. The former Norwin point guard made eight straight pars to close out his round.

Women’s golf

Washington & Jefferson: Freshman Antolena Damico (Penn-Trafford) finished 12th at the PAC Championships at Mill Creek Golf Club in Boardman, Ohio. She posted a four-round total of 357.

The Presidents finished second overall.

Men’s soccer

Saint Vincent: Tyler Gallagher was named head coach of the Bearcats.

He comes to Latrobe after two years as an assistant at Denison.

He also served as director of soccer and head coach at the Hoosac School in New York and was an assistant at St. Lawrence and SUNY Canton.
