A Ligonier Township man pleaded guilty to lesser charges for the stabbing of his father last year.
Michael Glenn Glass, 27, has been in jail since his arrest in March 2024 after he was charged with felony attempted homicide, and aggravated assault, and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and possession of instruments of crime.
Westmoreland County prosecutors on Monday dismissed the two felony counts and allowed Glass to plead guilty to two misdemeanor offenses in connection with the stabbing incident.
According to court records, Glass grabbed a knife during an argument and used it to stab his father in the face and stomach while threatening to kill him. The victim wrested the knife from Glass and put it in a cabinet, police said.
Glass was found competent to stand trial last year after he was evaluated for mental health issues.
Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio sentenced Glass to serve 11-1/2 to 23 months in jail and three years probation. She ordered that he be released to a structured-living facility to address ongoing mental health issues.
In a separate case, Glass pleaded guilty to a felony count for making a false statement when he sought to purchase a gun last year. Police said Glass failed to disclose a history of mental illness on an application form. The judge ordered he serve an additional seven years on probation that will run after he completes his sentence for his father’s stabbing.
