PennDOT has unveiled online plans for work to preserve eight bridges in Westmoreland County and one in Fayette County.

Some of the work is expected to begin as early as mid-August, with final construction projected to wrap up by the end of October 2026.

Monthlong traffic detours are expected during construction at two of the Westmoreland locations: the bridge carrying Hunker Waltz Mill Road over Sewickley Creek in Hempfield and the bridge carrying Midget Camp Road over Hendricks Creek in Fairfield. Each of those bridges is slated to receive an overlay of the concrete deck and repair or replacement of expansion dams.

A bridge on Interstate 70 that crosses over Hunker Waltz Mill Road in Hempfield is scheduled for an overlay and substructure repairs.

Asphalt overlays and joint repairs are planned for bridges that carry Falcon Park Road over Pucketa Creek in New Kensington, and Brownsville Albany Road over Redstone Creek in Brownsville and Jefferson Township, Fayette County.

Repairs are planned underneath bridges at the following sites:

• Route 981 (Lloyd Avenue) over Monastery Run in Unity

• Ross Mountain Park Road over a branch of Hendricks Creek in Fairfield

• Points where New Stanton-Youngwood Road and the ramp from that road to Route 119 cross a branch of Sewickley Creek in New Stanton

The online plans display and a form for public comment will be available through May 15. Visit the regional PennDOT website at penndot.pa.gov/District12 and select the links for “View District 12 Projects” and “2025 District 12 Bridge Preservation - Fayette & Westmoreland Counties.”
