Quaker Valley’s boys lacrosse team started out 4-0 this spring before suffering its first loss, a close 6-5 decision to Indiana in mid-April.
The Quakers rolled past Canon-McMillan, 11-9; West Allegheny, 20-1; Winchester Thurston, 14-2; and North Catholic, 10-4, in their first four games.
Following the Indiana game, QV lost 18-7 to Sewickley Academy before bouncing back with 16-5 and 15-3 wins on consecutive days against Knoch and Allderdice, improving to 6-2.
“I think our performance has been fairly good so far. However, there are many ways we can improve,” said QV’s Jacob Keisel, a junior midfielder. “My goals (for the team) this season are to make a deeper run into the playoffs and go to states.”
The Quakers lost to Bethel Park, 15-11, in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A tournament last season to finish 7-7 overall.
Keisel and two other juniors, Jace Vasbinder and Hunter Kronk, are the Quakers’ starting midfielders in 2025 and are joined on offense by attackers Marcus Richey, Max Modrovich and Nate Miller, a senior, junior and freshman, respectively.
“The expectations for the rest of the season are to be relentless in games and not give up even if we are down, and to hopefully make it into and advance in the playoffs,” Kronk said.
Four juniors — Colin York, Luke Koehler, Logan Benedict and Ben McHenry — along with sophomore Dom Anderson and senior Jack Diemert serve as the team’s defensive corps and complement junior goalkeeper Aiden Dillaman.
McHenry and Anderson also see playing time at the long-stick middie position.
QV’s reserves include two freshmen, Ian Elliott and Roman Gabriele, and sophomores Quentin Marcotte at midfield, and Sam Musmanno and Jack Watson at attack.
QV has only two seniors on this year’s squad, but both have proven to be first-rate high school athletes.
Diemert and Richey both captured their 100th career win as fourth-year wrestlers in 2024-25.
Diemert also was a four-year starter in football who accounted for 1,022 yards of real estate last fall. He rushed for a team-high 589 yards and 12 touchdowns, caught 23 passes for 146 yards and added 287 yards on kickoff returns. The versatile Diemert also led the squad in tackles with 109 (56 solo, 53 assisted) and averaged 12.1 tackles per game.
Quaker Valley’s boys lacrosse program includes 10 juniors on the team. And mirroring last season, the Quakers have a large group of hockey players on the team. They include Watson, McHenry, Modrovich, Kronk, Dillaman, D’Antonio, York, Keisel, Koehler and Vasbinder.
Through April 27, Quaker Valley boys lacrosse was in fifth place in Section 2-2A with a 2-1 record, behind Mars (7-0), Hampton (6-1), Sewickley Academy (6-1) and Indiana (4-2).
Shaler (4-3), North Catholic (2-4), Freeport (2-5), Moon (2-5), Knoch (0-5) and Winchester Thurston (0-6) rounded out the standings.
