The only U.S. Open Local Qualifier in the Pittsburgh area will be held May 13 at Quicksilver Golf Club.

There are 84 players entered who are vying for five berths.

Some of the local golfers entered include Mark Goetz, Palmer Jackson, Wes Lorish, Brian Cooper, Jimmy Meyers, Justin Moose, Carter Pitcairn, Jon Pratkanis, Nolan Shilling, Nick Turowski, Talon Kriebel and Mike Van Sickle.

Li advances

Jason Li earned a spot in the next round of qualifying by shooting a 3-under 67 at the Country Cub of York on May 1.

Li was a WPIAL and PIAA champion while playing at Sewickley Academy. He also played golf at Carnegie Mellon.

WV qualifier

No local golfer qualified for the U.S. Open at the Pines Country Club in Morgantown.

The four to advance to the next qualifier were pro Logan Perkins of Atlanta; amateur Kaleb Wilson of Knoxville, Tenn.; Todd Duncan of Daniels, W.Va.; and Westy McCabe of Dallas.

Perkins and Wilson shot a 5-under 66s, Daniels shot a 4-under 67 and McCabe shot a 3-under 68. Nathan Piatt of Pittsburgh shot a 2-under 69. He will serve as an alternate.

England’s McGinty earns berth

England’s Caley McGinty earned the only spot from the U.S. Women’s Open Local Qualifier on Tuesday at Shannopin Country Club.

She shot a 5-under-par 139.

She is a former Ohio State player.

McGinty advances to the 80th U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills Country Club in Wisconsin on May 29-June 1.

Amateur Melanie Walker placed second at 3-over, Waynesburg’s Rachel Rohanna was third at 5-over, Mia Hammond was fourth at 6-over and Anna Swan was fifth at 7-over.

Walker and Rohanna are alternates.
