Rochester Road detour begins in Ross

A long-term detour is scheduled to begin Monday for motorists using Rochester Road in Ross.

The road will be closed in both directions between Nocklyn Drive and Reis Run Road/Sewickley Oakmont Road, according to PennDOT, while crews from contractor CH&D Enterprises replace a culvert.

The closure is expected to continue through Aug. 10.

The posted detour includes portions of Route 19 and Sewickley Oakmont Road.

The culvert replacement is part of a $1.1 million project that also includes work to the approaching road.


Phipps Conservatory offers free admission

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is offering free admission between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday as part of the Regional Asset District’s Summer Staycation Program.

Visitors must reserve a ticket for admission to the attraction in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood by logging on to phipps.conservatory.org/tickets.

The conservatory’s summer flower show, “Jungle Quest,” is on view through Sept. 21. It features topiary animals and tropical foliage.
