Cities across the United States are gathering for a No Kings Day protest against the Trump administration — and Pittsburgh is no exception.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday, thousands of people are expected to rally outside of the City County Building on Grant Street in demonstration against the president and his administration’s immigration crackdown.
50501 movement, an organization founded to protest Trump during his second presidency, began their discussion about holding 50 protests across 50 states in one day in a Reddit thread, which spread rapidly, according to their website. Those protests in April were called “Hands Off.”
Saturday’s demonstration, held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., is in response to what organizers call “increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies.”
The 50501 Movement, along with other grassroots organizations, is encouraging participants to bring American flags, stating on the “No Kings” website that the flag belongs to the people — not to Trump.
Other “No Kings” protests in Pittsburgh will be held in Mt. Lebanon, Greensburg, Washington County, Cranberry Township and Beaver County. Protests are also taking place around the Philadelphia and Harrisburg area.
“We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts,” the website said.
