Officials will be seeking replacements for an Irwin councilman and a North Huntingdon commissioner who are resigning from their positions this month.
In Irwin, Ron Romeo last week submitted his resignation to council, effective June 15.
Romeo’s term expires Dec. 31 and council is accepting letters of interest from residents who are registered to vote and want to fill the remainder of his term. The deadline is 3 p.m. July for submitting the letters to Shari Martino, borough manager, at 424 Main St.
Council said it plans to vote to fill the vacancy at its July 9 meeting. Those who apply are encouraged to attend the meeting to express their interest in the position on borough council.
In Irwin, all seven council members are at-large members, meaning they are voted on by all borough voters, not just those in one area.
Romeo did not run in the primary for a nomination for another term.
In North Huntingdon, Eric Gass, the commissioner representing the township’s 7th ward, announced his plans on June 12 to resign because he is moving.
Gass’ current term does not expire until Dec. 31, 2027.
Commissioner Zachary Haigis, board president, said the township cannot act on Gass’ resignation and set procedures to replace him until he submits a written letter.
The commissioners meet on Wednesday.
