Another Timmons is headed to Florida State.
Pine-Richland’s Jay Timmons, whose father Lawrence played linebacker for the Seminoles, flipped his commitment from Indiana to Florida State on Tuesday.
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound rising senior, the younger Timmons is a highly ranked defensive back. He committed in late April to Indiana before adding a Florida State offer June 1.
He also had Power 4 schools Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Iowa, Iowa State, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wisconsin among his college options. Recruiting website Rivals.com rated Timmons as a three-star prospect and ranked him 18th in the state among 2026 graduates.
His father played three years at Florida State from 2004-06 and earned all-ACC honors before the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played 10 seasons for the Steelers.
Jay Timmons, whose first name is also Lawrence, helped Pine-Richland win the WPIAL Class 5A title last season. He scored 12 touchdowns, including two fumble returns and two interceptions.
Coaches voted Timmons as a first-team all-conference defensive back.
He picked off four passes in all, forced three fumbles, recovered two and made 42 tackles.
On offense, he caught 40 passes for 755 yards.
