Pittsburgh police arrested an 18-year-old on gun charges after a shooting that injured 15 people Sunday near Garland Park in East Liberty.
Kyree McCray of Pittsburgh faces charges that include carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property. He is not charged with firing a weapon during the shooting.
McCray is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of Garland Park for reports of multiple people shot. Five people were hospitalized for gunshot wounds from the shooting, all of whom were reported to be in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, police said. Among those hospitalized included three men, a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy.
Ten others were treated at the scene for graze wounds or minor injuries from falls, police said.
At 12:31 a.m., officers got a call for the 5800 block of Penn Avenue, two blocks from Garland Park, for a “male two doors down with a gun” later identified to be McCray, according to a criminal complaint.
When officers located McCray, he ran away from them, the complaint said. McCray was taken into custody at gunpoint, the complaint said.
According to the complaint, McCray told police he did not shoot the gun. The gun was confirmed stolen from Wilkinsburg.
McCray had two active warrants for his arrest for domestic violence, the complaint said.
Senior District Judge David Sosovicka denied bail for McCray. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 3 at Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
Police continue to investigate the shooting.
