One person died in a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Washington County, authorities say.
The Washington County Coroner was called around 5:30 a.m. to Route 40, near the road’s intersection with Valley View Road, in North Bethlehem on a report of the crash, a 911 dispatcher told TribLive.
The dispatcher confirmed there was a fatality but said only the coroner would identify the victim.
Police were detouring traffic around parts of Route 40 as of 6:30 a.m., authorities said. It was unclear how many vehicles were involved in the crash.
Early reports indicate a vehicle caught fire after the head-on crash, authorities said. Several first responders were dispatched to the scene.
A general store and office sits near the intersection of Route 40 (East National Pike) and Valley View Road, which is located in a largely residential area that bears a Scenery Hill mailing address.
Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to correct that it is Route 40, not Interstate 40.
