Numerous law enforcement officials were searching a field and wooded area near the intersection of the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass and Route 66 in Hempfield Wednesday for a person wanted on a warrant, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department said.

There is not a threat to the public and law enforcement has officers surrounding the area, said Chief Deputy Sheriff Jennifer Shipley, who declined to elaborate on the incident or the gender of the suspect.

Sheriff’s deputies and state police troopers began searching around 1:15 p.m. in a field and woods around Mollick Lane, a short street parallel to Route 66 and behind the Tastyland ice cream shop. Several law enforcement vehicles were stationed at two houses on Mollick Lane.

Westmoreland County sheriff’s deputies, state police troopers and helicopter, a K-9 unit, and all-terrain vehicles were employed in the search.

Additional details were not available.
