Rescuers were working Thursday night to free a man from a trench in Charleroi, Washington County, after an apparent collapse.

A borough firefighter at the Charleroi station said it was still an active scene as of 10:30 p.m. with multiple crews responding to the call.

TribLive news partners WTAE reported the incident occurred outside a home in the 800 block of McKean Avenue.

Columbia Gas told WTAE that work was not being done to a gas line. A spokesperson believes this is a sewer line project.

No further information about the incident was immediately available.

The Charleroi firefighter at the station said other municipal companies were also on standby to answer any other emergencies in the borough.
