A Fayette County woman is being investigated by police after a 9-year-old from Dunbar was found dead Thursday morning.

Renesmay Eutsey was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. She was reportedly last seen in the area of her home on the 100 block of 3rd Street in Dunbar around 2 a.m. Pennsylvania State Police alerted the public asking for assistance in finding the girl.

Just before 4 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police posted on X that she had been found. A report released Thursday from Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson confirmed the girl’s death, saying her body had been found partially submerged in the Youghiogheny River near Smithton.

The cause of death will be known after an autopsy.

According to TribLive news partner WTAE, Kourtney Malinda Eutsey, 31, of Dunbar is described by the district attorney as the girl’s “adoptive parent.” Police said they are planning to charge her with criminal homicide because of her alleged involvement in the child’s death.
