No score is safe in golf, especially after one round of a two-round championship tournament.

And while Elizabeth Forward senior Mya Morgan (Class 3A) and Shady Side Academy sophomore Alyssa Zhang (Class 2A) have not won anything yet, they have put themselves in position to win WPIAL titles.

For Morgan, it would be second title. She edged Peters Township senior Ellie Benson in 2023 for her first title. Benson reversed that in 2024 by edging Morgan.

Morgan shot a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday at rainy Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver County. She leads Benson by five strokes after the Peters Township senior shot a 2-over 74.

Peters Township sophomore Betty Glyptis is third at 5-over, Moon senior Liv Degori and Pine-Richland’s Siena Smith are tied for fourth at 9-over.

Norwin senior Adalena Robb is tied for sixth at 10-over with Fox Chapel’s Clara Koteski.

The top 36 in each classification advance to the the WPIAL Class 3A and 2A final round Oct. 1 at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.

Zhang eyes second title

In 2A, Zhang shot a 1-over 73 and holds a six-shot advantage over Chartiers-Houston JoJo Jaskulski, who shot a 79.

Zhang had three birdies (Nos. 7, 11 and 16) and four bogeys during her round.

North Catholic sophomore Riley Kontul was third with an 80, Greensburg Central Catholic junior Kennedy Kelly was fourth (85) and her teammate, senior Alayna Stawovy, was fifth (86).

Eden Christian senior Pearl Lundgren, a two-time runner-up, is tied for sixth with Quaker Valley senior Mackenna Kamnikar, both at 87.
