The doubles team of senior Annabelle Aquino and sophomore Elle LeJeune captured the Section 1-3A title Sept. 25.
The pair defeated Latrobe’s Carlin Bukovac and Allison Massaro 6-7 (9), 6-4 and 6-4 in the semifinals. They rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the second set.
They then breezed past the Norwin duo of Bayleigh Vilage and Cassandra Halaszynski, 7-5, 6-1 in the finals.
Bukovac and Massaro finished third by defeating Franklin Regional’s Michelle Yan and Sofia Palombo 6-3, 6-1.
Vilage and Halaszynski won their semifinal 6-3, 2-6 and 6-3.
Also last week, the Warriors girls tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Franklin Regional and ended up third in Section 1-3A behind Latrobe and the Panthers.
Now they will await the start of the WPIAL playoffs.
Penn-Trafford rebounds from 1st loss
Ben Grabowski and Cody Yacamelli each scored two touchdowns to lead the Warriors (1-1, 4-1) to a win against Kiski Area, 42-0.
The victory came a week after the Warriors lost to Woodland Hills.
Wide receiver Nick Ponko caught five passes for 135 yards.
The Warriors battled Plum in a nonconference game on Sept. 26.
The Warriors had 16 players contribute to the offense.
Cross country heads to IUP
The Penn-Trafford boys cross country team competed in the Section 1 championships at IUP on Sept. 23.
The Warriors were led by senior captain Jacob Dormire taking 21st place in 18 minutes, 12 seconds.
He was followed by senior Edir Sid Mohand in 24th in 18:52 and junior Justin Martin in 38th.
The Penn-Trafford girls were led by junior captain Faith Whipple, who ran a personal record 22:56 to place 28th. Evelyn Hartman (32:16) and Adelina Truschel (35:09) also competed well for the girls.
P-T boys soccer tops Franklin Regional
Cooper Geyer scored early in the second half, and Penn-Trafford’s back line played firm during a 1-0 upset of No. 5 Franklin Regional last week.
The Warriors (6-4, 3-3) posted their fourth shutout and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Ice hockey begins the season
The Penn-Trafford hockey team opened the season Sept. 29 at Palmer Imaging Arena against rival Norwin.
The Warriors lost to Fox Chapel in the PIHL Class 2A semifinals in 2025.
