Friday’s “First Call links Kenny Pickett’s name to trade speculation again. A pair of ex-Pittsburgh Pirates performed well in MLB playoff elimination games. Local college hockey is getting ramped up.

And there is a full weekend of bounce-back potential for some regional college football teams.

Pickett predicament

Could ex-Steeler Kenny Pickett be traded yet again?

ESPN’s Dan Graziano suggested that could happen.

The Pitt product has already been dealt by the Steelers to the Philadelphia Eagles after his first two years in the NFL. That happened in the offseason prior to the 2024 campaign.

Philadelphia then moved him to the Cleveland Browns this offseason. From there, Cleveland dealt Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders in August.

However, in a recent post about the notion of a quarterback being traded prior to the deadline, the first two names Graziano mentioned were Pickett and Minnesota’s Carson Wentz (who is on his sixth team in six years).

Another name Graziano advanced was ex-Steeler Russell Wilson’s, now that he has been replaced as the New York Giants starter by Jaxson Dart.

“It doesn’t feel like Wilson has a real role in New York, where rookie Jaxson Dart is now the starter and Jameis Winston is signed through 2026 to be his backup, Graziano wrote. “Wilson’s trade value is also likely very low right now, so the Giants might wait until someone gets desperate to ship him out.”

Pickett has yet to play for the Raiders.

The former Pirate pitched four shutout innings Thursday as the Cubs went on to beat the San Diego Padres in a decisive Game 3 of their Wild Card series 3-1.

Taillon didn’t walk anyone, posted four strikeouts and allowed just two hits along the way.

Daniel Palencia ended up getting credit for the win. Chicago will face Milwaukee in a best-of-five divisional series starting Saturday.

Also, Mars’ David Bednar recorded the last three outs of the New York Yankees’ 4-0 win over Boston in the Bronx on Thursday night. That means the Yanks eliminate the Red Sox and will now face Toronto in a divisional series.
