One week remains in the 2025 WPIAL football regular season with plenty of district postseason berths and conference crowns still up for grabs.

This is the second year of the new look WPIAL football playoffs where wild card teams have expanded and are no longer figured out by the mathematical equations.

The league will select the 16 wild card teams on Selection Saturday on Oct. 25

Here is a look at the teams that have clinched and the schedule for teams still alive heading into Week 9.

Conference records are listed next to teams and only remaining conference games are noted.

Class 6A

Top four teams in the seven-team standings qualify for the playoffs.

• If Canon-McMillan and Mt. Lebanon both won to force a three-way tie for third place, head-to-head would be tied but Canon-McMillan would finish third with more Gardner Points and Mt. Lebanon would be fourth because of head-to-head win over Norwin.

• If Canon-McMillan and Mt. Lebanon both lose on Friday, Canon-McMillan wins the head-to-head tiebreaker. If they both lose and Seneca Valley wins, Canon-McMillan still wins the head-to-head tiebreaker, thus Seneca Valley has been eliminated.

Class 5A

Big East Conference

Northeast Conference

WPIAL tiebreaker points coming into Week 9: Shaler is 10, Penn Hills is 0 and North Hills finished at 8. After second place is determined, head-to-head decides third place.

Allegheny Six Conference

• Montour can clinch a share of the conference championship with a win at West Allegheny on Friday. The Spartans can clinch the top seed out of the conference with a win and a New Castle loss at Blackhawk.

• Aliquippa can finish in third place with a win at Ambridge and a Montour win at West Allegheny.

• If Aliquippa beats Ambridge and New Castle loses to Blackhawk, it would force a three-way tie for second place with the loser of the Montour at West Allegheny game. If Montour loses, New Castle would finish second, Montour third and Aliquippa fourth due to head-to-head. If West Allegheny loses, head-to-head would still be tied, but New Castle would have more Gardner Points and would finish second, then Aliquippa would be third and West Allegheny fourth.

Big Six Conference

In that case, a Hopewell win by six or more points would give it third place, North Catholic would be fourth and Beaver fifth.

Allegheny Seven Conference

• If Freeport beats Imani Christian and Highlands beats Valley, all three teams would be tied for the conference championship. The head-to-head tiebreaker would also be tied; the WPIAL tiebreaker points coming into Week 9: Imani Christian 50, Highlands 21, Freeport 39. In that case, a Freeport win by six or more points give the Yellowjackets the top seed out of the conference, Imani Christian would be second and Highlands third.

• Burrell clinched fourth place and would be alive for a wild card spot with a win over Deer Lakes on Friday.

• If Deer Lakes beats Burrell, those two teams and East Allegheny would be tied for fourth place and a possible wild card. The head-to-head tiebreaker would also be tied; the WPIAL tiebreaker points coming into Week 9: Burrell -19, Deer Lakes -27, and East Allegheny is finished at -18. In that case, a Deer Lakes win by four or more points would give the Lancers fourth place, Burrell fifth and East Allegheny sixth.

Interstate Conference

• If Steel Valley and Apollo-Ridge both win on Friday, there will be a three-way tie for the conference crown. The head-to-head tiebreaker would also be tied; the WPIAL tiebreaker points coming into Week 9: South Allegheny 50, Apollo-Ridge 22, Steel Valley 36. In that case, a Steel Valley win by seven or more points would give the Ironmen the top seed out of the conference, South Allegheny would be second and Apollo-Ridge third.

• Our Lady of the Sacred Heart will finish fourth and the winner of Shady Side Academy at South Park is fifth.

Midwestern Athletic Conference

If all three teams ended up 40, then a coin flip would determine the top seed out of the conference, and head-to-head would then determine the second and third seeds.

• If Jefferson-Morgan and Bentworth win on Friday, both teams will be tied with California for the conference crown. The head-to-head tiebreaker would also be tied; the WPIAL tiebreaker points coming into Week 9: California 51, Jefferson-Morgan 40, Bentworth 49. In that case, a Bentworth win by two or more points give it the top seed out of the conference, Jefferson-Morgan would be second and California third.

Four teams are within a game of each other in the battle for fourth place and a possible wild card spot.

Head-to-head between Avella, Beth-Center and Carmichaels is even at 1-1 each. However, if West Greene beats Beth-Center and Avella and Carmichaels loses, the head-to-head between the four teams would be Avella 2-1, Beth-Center 1-2, Carmichaels 2-1 and West Greene 1-2. In that case, Carmichaels would finish fourth. If it comes down to it, the WPIAL tiebreaker points heading into Week 9: Avella 2, Beth-Center -13, Carmichaels -29.
