In the face of rising food insecurity, local governments, organizations and businesses are stepping up their efforts to collect food donations.

Greensburg officials have announced they will host a city-wide food drive running Tuesday through Nov. 19 that will offer free parking in exchange for donations.

Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable food and household items, which will grant them access to free parking at metered spots in the city.

“With everything going on in the world around us, we wanted to try and do our part for residents of Greensburg,” said city administrator Kelsye Milliron. “Every donation, no matter how small, helps make a difference for someone in need.”

Donations will go to local nonprofit Feeding the Spirit, which offers a free weekly hot meal at Otterbein United Methodist Church on College Avenue on Thursday evenings. The group, founded in 2011, also helps those experiencing homelessness or housing instability by offering rent aid, emergency shelter arrangements, as well as provide individuals in need with other items such as pet food, toiletries, diapers, gas cards and more.

Donors can drop items off at the following locations in Greensburg:

• WIN Workforce Development Program, 29 W. Second St.
