Khalil Taylor scored four touchdowns as No. 1 Pine-Richland earned a convincing 42-10 victory over No. 8 Shaler (4-8) in the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinals Friday night.
Taylor, a Division I recruit, scored on a 90-yard kickoff return, a 30-yard pass from Aaron Strader, a 9-yard interception return and an 87-yard punt return.
Strader threw for 107 yards and three touchdowns for Pine-Richland (10-1), which will play Moon in the semifinals next Friday at a site to be determined.
Aaron Aversa threw for 115 yards and ran for 122 yards and a touchdown for Shaler.
In other playoff matchups Friday night:
Peters Township 42, Bethel Park 14 — Cole Neupaver ran for 135 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 2 Peters Township (11-0) to the WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal win against No. 7 Bethel Park (7-5). Neupaver also caught a touchdown pass from Nolan DiLucia, who threw for 124 yards and ran for a TD. Evan Devine threw for 185 yards and a touchdown for Bethel Park. Peters Township faces Upper St. Clair in the semifinals next Friday.
Class 3A
Imani Christian 59, Hopewell 21 — Gabe Jenkins ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns while David Davis added 170 rushing yards and two TDs as No. 2 Imani Christian (11-0) gained 497 yards on the ground in its WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal win over No. 10 Hopewell (7-5). James Armstrong threw for 104 yards and a touchdown for Hopewell. Imani Christian plays Central Valley next week in the semifinals.
Class 2A
Seton LaSalle 42, Mohawk 7 — Kia Jones completed all seven of his passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns as No. 1 Seton LaSalle (10-1) defeated No. 8 Mohawk (6-6) in the WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinals. Kymarr Freeman rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns while Aaron Loritts caught two passes — both for touchdowns — for 109 yards. Seton LaSalle will play Washington in next week’s semifinals.
Steel Valley 42, Ellwood City 6 — Da’Ron Barksdale ran for 213 yards and five touchdowns to lead No. 3 Steel Valley (8-3) over No. 6 Ellwood City (7-5) in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. Tyler Smiley threw for 103 yards for Ellwood City. Steel Valley faces Western Beaver in the semifinals next week.
Class A
Bishop Canevin 50, Frazier 7 — In the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals at Canon-McMillan, Myontae Mott rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns as No. 3 Bishop Canevin (9-3) defeated No. 11 Frazier (7-5). Damar Olds threw for 101 yards and a touchdown, ran for a TD and returned an interception 48 yards for another score. Derek Diamond ran for 122 yards and Frazier’s touchdown. Bishop Canevin matches up against Clairton next Friday in the semifinals.
Fort Cherry 36, Neshannock 9 — Eli Salvini ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns as No. 1 Fort Cherry (12-0) defeated No. 9 Neshannock (8-4) in the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals at Beaver. Matt Sieg added 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Fort Cherry will play Laurel in the semifinals next week.
Laurel 40, Chartiers-Houston 21 — Kolton Carlson ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns as No. 4 Laurel (11-1) beat No. 12 Chartiers-Houston (8-4) at West Allegheny in the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals. Jack Miles added 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Tony Geiwitz had two interceptions for Laurel’s defense. Aaron Walsh threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns for Chartiers-Houston. Laurel advances to play Fort Cherry in next week’s semifinals.
