While he chases a WPIAL title, Imani Christian’s David Davis committed Thursday to a college coach who knows about trophies.

The highly recruited cornerback flipped his commitment from Penn State to North Carolina and coach Bill Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.

The 6-foot, 190-pound senior reopened his recruitment after Penn State fired coach James Franklin. Prior to committing to the Nittany Lions in March, Davis announced a top six that included Pitt, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Michigan State and Nebraska. He received a North Carolina offer in late October.

Recruiting website Rivals rated Davis as a four-star prospect and ranked him 39th among cornerbacks nationally in the senior class. He ranked 11th overall among seniors statewide.

A versatile player as a rusher or receiver, Davis leads Imani Christian with 15 touchdowns this season. The second-seeded Saints face No. 3 Central Valley in a WPIAL Class 3A semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday at Montour.
