Already the TribLive Westmoreland Girls Soccer Player of the Year and the owner of several postseason awards, Morgan Gesinski added another one to her growing list.

Gesinski was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region list, a prestigious honor that is one step below All-American.

She hopes to get that recognition next.

The standout forward scored 30 goals and assisted on 11 others this season for the Lady Vikings, who reached the WPIAL 2A semifinals.

She also was an all-section, All-WPIAL and all-state selection, as well as being a finalist for the Moe Rosensteel Most Outstanding Player of the Year Award.

She finished her high school career with 127 goals and 48 assists.

Mt. Pleasant was 67-13-2 and won four section titles with Gesinski in the lineup.

Mahoney coaching

Mahoney coached the boys golf team.

Jones offered

Avonworth sophomore football player Jaden Jones is firmly on the radar of Division I coaches.

The son of former Greensburg Salem and West Virginia wrestling standout Vertus Jones, an assistant football coach at Avonworth, the younger Jones picked up his first scholarship offer, and it’s a local one. West Virginia wants the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder, who played receiver and defensive back this season for the back-to-back champion Antelopes, who reached the PIAA championship.

Recruiting

Norwin wrestler Luca Butera will continue his career at Division III Shenandoah (Va.), a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

A senior, Butera finished 20-18 last season at 107 pounds.

• Norwin senior Jayden Marcius committed to play baseball at Lackawanna, a junior college in Scranton.

A right-handed pitcher, Marcius is back after having Tommy John surgery.

He also plays for the Yukon Miners, a high-level team in the National Amateur Baseball Federation, with affiliations with Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report.

• Penn-Trafford senior football player Ben Lenart has a roster spot if he wants it at Gettysburg College, a Division III program. Lenart is a receiver and defensive back.
