Claim to fame: Smith, a third-year starter, scored a season-high 27 points in a 46-33 win over Leechburg, had 16 in a 38-36 loss to Trinity Christian and added 15 in a 48-15 win over Springdale. She also helped Jeannette hold off Monessen, 32-26, in double overtime as she scored nine, then put up 22 in a 34-23 win over Derry. Smith quietly has emerged as one of the top scorers in Westmoreland County.

What are you hoping to accomplish in your senior season?

I would aim to improve my skills, contribute to the team’s success and create lasting memories with my teammates. I want to lead my team to a championship and make history.

What has gone well for you so far?

There’s been camaraderie between players and coaches, and I like the atmosphere and harmonious environment.

Has the Jeannette program stabilized after so many years of small rosters?

Yes, I definitely would say we had a rough couple years for various reasons, but we used those losses as leverage. We’re back better than ever. We grew as one unit, and we overcame obstacles that were supposed to break us down but made us stronger than ever.

Do you consider yourself a true point guard, a natural shooting guard or a combination of both?

Combination of both. I can handle both point guard and shooting guard duties.I have strong ball handling and shooting, passing and defensive skills. Plus, the ability to make smart decisions in various game situations.

What is your greatest strength as a player, and what do you want to improve on the most?

My greatest strength as a player is finishing, and something I need to improve on the most is efficiency. Being adaptable can fill multiple roles, making you a valuable asset to any team. Understanding of the game, court vision and decision-making skills allow me to make smart plays.

Are any colleges showing interest in you?

Yes, I have interest from several schools, and I’m still exploring more.

Who do you look up to as a player growing up in Jeannette?

My mother (Jelysa Stewart). Growing up, I deeply admired my mom, viewing her as a role model and source of inspiration. Her actions, values and strength significantly shaped my own character and aspirations. Her ability to bounce back from setbacks taught me the importance of perseverance.

Who is your idol?

Kobe Bryant, because of his relentless work ethic, dedication to mastering his craft and his competitive spirit. His “Mamba mentality” has inspired many to push their limits.

You can score, obviously, but you show a lot of blocked shots in your highlights.Do you take pride in swatting defenders?

Yes, I take a lot of pride in blocking shots. It’s not just about preventing the score but also about igniting our team’s energy and morale. Plus, it feels awesome to deny someone at the rim.

Do you have any unique hobbies?

I coach a Midget League football team, I play video games and I draw to clear my head.

What is your secret talent?

I’d say my ability to stay calm and focused under immense pressure or having exceptional intuition on the court, knowing exactly where my teammates will be.

Why do you wear No. 5 ?

Wearing number 5 is my tribute to the loved ones I’ve lost. It fuels my commitment to play to my full potential, honoring their memory with every game. For me, No. 5 is a symbol of strength, remembrance and the drive to excel, all in honor of those I carry in my heart.

What has coach Jenna Lusbusy brought to the program?

She has brought fresh strategies, a focus on team unity and an emphasis on individual skill development, aiming to elevate both team performance and player growth. She is implementing a faster paced offense, a more aggressive defense, and specialized training drills tailored to each player’s position. The team has adapted well.

What must you do before every game?

I visualize success, listen to music and do some deep breathing exercises to calm my nerves and sharpen my concentration. Talking to God is a must. Praying for guidance, strength and a positive attitude.

What’s wrong with the Steelers?

They have to get back to their winning ways. Defense cannot be on the field so many plays. Also need to stop the run.

Are you playing flag football for Jeannette?

Yes, I’m excited for the season. I’m ready to make it far with my team and domminate all season. It’s a revenge tour.

Claim to fame: Husenits has helped lead the Spartans to a 2-1 start. He led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points in wins against Latrobe and Penn-Trafford. He scored 12 points in the loss to Indiana.

How has your season been?

It has started out well. The team is playing really well.

Did you have any memorable moments this season or during your career?

Practicing with these guys during the summer as we prepared for the season. I did hit a game-winning shot to defeat Penn-Trafford last year.

Do you play any other sport?

No.

Is there another sport you wish you could play?

I used to play football and baseball. But I quit to I could concentrate on basketball.

Have you picked a college? Do you hope to play a sport? What are you looking for from a college?

No, not yet. I have some interest from Division III programs. I want a school that prepares me to be a physical therapist. It also must have good coaching and good teammates.

What is your favorite class?

I like math.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I am going to help with mini-thon.

What does it mean to be a Spartan?

It is the pride you feel when you put on the jersey every day.

What is special about your school?

The people at the school. We have great students and teachers. It is a good environment.

We got to Chick-fil-A, and I get a sandwich and fries.

I like my mom’s chicken pot pie.
