Jack Watson, a junior defenseman, led the way with two goals and an assist to send Quaker Valley to an 8-4 win Nov. 24 against Moon in the PIHL.

Sophomore forward Matthias Lezama and senior defenseman Luke Koehler each added a goal and two assists for the Quakers, who boosted their record to 9-1 and remained in first place in the Class A Blue Division.

Lezama increased his team leadership status offensively to 26 points with 11 goals and 15 assists.

QV’s other leading scorers were senior forwards Jace Vasbinder with 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists), Max Modrovich (9 goals, 9 assists) and Ben McHenry (8 goals, 10 assists) with 18 points apiece and Koehler (7 goals, 10 assists) right behind with 17.

Moon dropped to 7-2-2.

Montagnese honored

PIAA and WPIAL Class A boys cross country champion Jonah Montagnese of Quaker Valley was named first-team all-state by the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association.

Zachary Sharara of Sewickley Academy, the WPIAL Class A winner in boys cross country, was a second-team selection.

Century club members

The 2024-25 season was the ninth in the history of the Quaker Valley wrestling program.

There are nine grapplers in the century club with at least 100 career wins at QV:

Jack Kazalas (2024), at 151-28; Patrick Cutchember (2022), 141-31; John Rocco Kazalas (2019), 134-33; Bruce Anderchak (2026), 119-28; Connor Redinger (2021), 112-20; Logan Richey (2023), 112-50; Jack Diemert (2025), 110-58; Justin Richey (2022), 107-41; and Marcus Richey (2025), 100-44.

Three of the nine have the last name of Richey — Logan, Justin and Marcus.

Section champs

Sewickley Academy captured the Section 2-2A title in boys basketball last season with a 12-0 record.

It was the 11th section championship in school history for the boys basketball program and came seven years after the last one.
