In the heart of Mt. Lebanon’s business district, Toastique offers something not always easy to find: a place where gluten-free food is handled with care, tastes great, and doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
The café is known for its toasts, smoothie bowls, juices, and grab-and-go snacks. But for people avoiding gluten, it’s the thoughtful preparation that stands out.
“We offer gluten-free bread on any of our toasts, and we use separate utensils and a dedicated toaster,” says co-owner Chrissy Sileo. “Our team is trained to understand dietary needs, and because our kitchen is open, guests can see how their food is made.”
Other gluten-free options include smoothies, salads, energy bites, and nut butter cups, all of which are made in-house. The granola used in bowls can be swapped for a nut-free, gluten-free version.
“It’s important to us that people feel comfortable and confident ordering here,” adds Brad Sileo, Chrissy’s husband and co-owner. “We can’t guarantee zero cross-contact, but we take real steps to minimize it.”
The menu also includes vegan-friendly items, with many toasts, bowls, and smoothies able to be customized with plant-based ingredients. For detailed questions, guests are encouraged to speak with the store manager directly.
Chrissy and Brad, who live nearby in Upper St. Clair, wanted Toastique to be more than just a quick stop. “We hoped to create a space where people can meet up, work, or just take a break,” Chrissy says. The café includes a mix of booth, table, and counter seating, along with Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets.
Chrissy, a yoga instructor with a longtime interest in healthy eating, manages the day-to-day operations. Brad, who has a background in technology, helps on the business side. The couple went through extensive franchise training in Washington, D.C., to get hands-on with everything from juicing to hiring.
“We don’t cut corners with the food,” Brad says. “Everything is made to order, and you can taste the difference.”
