Pittsburgh Mayor-elect Corey O’Connor this week announced his picks for more key posts in his administration.

Sharon Werner — a former chief of staff to U.S. Attorneys General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch — will be the city’s chief operating officer.

Sophia Shapiro, the daughter of Gov. Josh Shapiro, will serve as special assistant to the chief of staff.

And Molly Onufer — now a spokesperson for Piatt Companies who previously was former Mayor Bill Peduto’s spokesperson — will be the city’s next press secretary.

O’Connor in a statement said Werner brings “a unique and impressive combination of private, public, legal and community service experience.”

“She has led operations of large organizations, has extensive experience with federal-level policy, and has deep ties across the Pittsburgh community to ensure every resident has a government that works for them,” O’Connor said.

Werner’s resume includes a stint as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, five years as a congressional chief of staff and a post as White House liaison and counselor to the attorney general.

She then went on to serve as chief of staff to Holder and Lynch, overseeing a 116,000-person workforce.

Since Werner moved to Pittsburgh in 2017, she has worked at PNC, most recently as chief operating officer of the Corporate Responsibility Group.

Shapiro served as director of advance production for Virginia Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger.

O’Connor said Shapiro applied for the post like anyone else. O’Connor touted her local ties as a University of Pittsburgh graduate.

“I look at all the appointments — these are people that have Pittsburgh connections, that have done work nationally,” O’Connor said.

O’Connor already has named Dan Gilman chief of staff and nominated Sheldon Williams and Jason Lando as public safety director and police chief, respectively.

Gilman was Peduto’s chief of staff and had been a city councilman; Williams was a Pittsburgh police officer and paramedic; and Lando was a Pittsburgh police commander.
