The Fox Chapel swimming program is under new leadership this season in coach Bailey Bonnett. The Foxes have seen plenty of good performances early in the season.

Delany O’Toole set a team team and pool record in the 100 freestyle. Ella Lange also set a new record in the 500 free.

Fox Chapel has also had a number of strong relay performances. Cameryn Brindza, Lane, Stanczak and O’Toole set a new pool record in the 200 IM.

Josephine Stanczak, Charlotte Rushe, Tuuli Airik and O’Toole were a part of a new pool record in the 200 free relay, while Ellie Lange, Rusche, Brindza and O’Toole helped the 400 relay set a new pool record.

Fox Chapel hockey lives on the edge

The Foxes hockey team snapped a three-game skid with two consecutive wins that both went beyond regulation. Fox Chapel’s win Dec. 4 showed a major turnaround from the beginning of the season. The Foxes beat Thomas Jefferson, which handed Fox Chapel a 12-0 defeat to start the season, 5-4 in a shootout.

In the rematch, Fox Chapel was able to win despite being outshot 43-9. The Foxes didn’t have any shots in overtime. Ian Berdik, Antonio Cardinali, Hayden Trac and Gavin Forbes scored for Fox Chapel.

The Foxes followed that up with a 6-5 overtime win over Mt. Lebanon. Cavan Patrick scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Fox Chapel. Tucker Cullen scored two goals and added three assists for the Foxes against the Blue Devils, while Forbes had two assists.

Shady Side Academy improves to 4-0

The Shady Side Academy girls basketball team finished a step short of winning a PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A championship last season. The Bulldogs have started this season with the determination to try and get back to the mountaintop.

Shady Side Academy, which opened section play last Friday against South Allegheny, is off to a 4-0 start and has demonstrated plenty of consistency. The Bulldogs have scored 50 or more points in each game.

Shady Side Academy has hit 57 points twice this season. Both of those scoring outputs came during the Play 4 Mae Showcase.

Urso works into lineup at Franciscan

Fox Chapel graduate Bella Urso played a career-high 33 minutes and equaled a career high with seven points for Franciscan University against Washington & Jefferson.

W&J, which is receiving votes in the top 25 of Division III, beat Franciscan, 83-47.
