As the United States faced several tragedies this past weekend, our president, instead of consoling a grieving nation, noted that one of the victims possessed “a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
If an American citizen laments the lack of decency and character in their president, does that mean they have a derangement syndrome? If they grieve his immature name-calling, his bullying behavior or his propensity for promoting mistruths, does that mean they have a mind-crippling disease? Is it really necessary for our president to label people as evil or enemies if they promote different priorities or strategies for advancing our nation?
No, many who struggle with our president’s lack of character and honesty are neither diseased nor deranged. Rather, they are simply saddened because they expect greater decency and integrity from their nation’s leader, and they lament the polarization his presence has promoted.
