After the Derry wrestling team opened its season with a fifth-place finish at the Top Hat Tournament, coach Troy Dolan Jr. said things would be different at the Moon Duals.

He was right. His Trojans were a perfect 6-0 to take home top honors.

Derry defeated Class 2A No. 4 Quaker Valley, 57-18; No. 5 Laurel, 54-12; Parkersburg, W.Va., 55-9; Mt. Lebanon, 48-6; Class 3A No. 10 West Allegheny, 39-24; and District 3 Palmyra, 47-15, in the championship match.

Brady Brown was one of the wrestlers who returned to the lineup after missing the season-opening tournament.

A couple Class 3A teams on the rise are Kiski Area (11-0) and Latrobe (4-1).

The Cavaliers won their own tournament Saturday by defeating Hempfield, 51-15; District 10 Fort LeBoeuf, 55-9; District 9 DuBois, 49-24; Class 3A No. 3 Canon-McMillan, 35-25; and No. 7 North Allegheny, 45-22.

The results forced changes in the Class 3A rankings.

Franklin Regional and Norwin remain No. 1 and 2. Trinity is now No. 3. Kiski Area moved from No. 8 to No. 4. North Allegheny, which defeated Canon-McMillan, is No. 5. Canon-McMillan drops to No. 6, and Connellsville falls to No. 7 even though it defeated West Allegheny.

Latrobe, which went 4-1 at the Hampton Duals, went from unranked to No. 8.

Class 3A looks well balanced.
