The Wheeling Nailers’ road game against the Toledo Walleye on Friday has been postponed indefinitely due to ECHL players going on strike.

There is no word yet as to the status of the Nailers’ home game against the Indy Fuel on Saturday.

ECHL players formally went on strike Friday as collective bargaining negotiations between the league and the Professional Hockey Players Association reached a stalemate.

The two parties have been negotiating over a variety of issues, including salaries, insurance, equipment standards and travel.

On Friday, the league claimed it had made its “last, best and final offer” to the PHPA.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recalled 10 players from Wheeling who are signed to American Hockey League contracts Friday afternoon. That group includes:

Forwards: Matty De St. Phalle, Brayden Edwards, Max Graham, Connor Lockhart, Zach Urdahl

Defensemen: David Breazeale, Tommy Budnick, Brent Johnson

Goaltenders: Taylor Gauthier, Maxim Pavelenko

The Pittsburgh Penguins did not have any players under NHL contract assigned to Wheeling at the time the strike began.

Through 27 games this season, the Nailers have a 20-6-1-0 record and a league-leading 41 points.
