Aiden Thompson and Amon Hawthorne scored 16 points apiece to lead Penn Hills to a 58-35 boys basketball victory at the South Allegheny tournament on Friday night.

Calix Clark added 12 for Penn Hills (4-4). Webber Rankin and Logan Walter scored 11 points each for Franklin Regional (7-2).

Elizabeth Forward 79, South Allegheny 70 – Daniel Spence hit for 33 points, Tyler Basic added 16 and Elizabeth Forward (6-3) used a 34-24 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to beat the host Gladiators at the South Allegheny tournament. Matthew Gatto added 10 for the Warriors. Drew Cook led South Allegheny (7-3) with 31 points. Fisher Ielease and Smaj Reason had 13 each.

Allegany (MD) 61, Armstrong 47 – Chris Manherz scored 25 points and Owen Rice added 14 to lead the hosts to victory at the Allegheny tournament. Quinton Olsen scored 13 and Kaison Young added 11 for Armstrong (4-6).

Brashear 71, Burgettstown 54 – Trevon Rosario-Jones scored 18 points to lead Brashear (3-7) past the hosts at the Burgettstown tournament. Landon Pickett added 14, Nasir Thomas 13 and Jahleel Anthony 12 for the Bulls. Blake Neal led Burgettstown (1-7) with 18 points. Lance Duran added 14 and Trent Stevens finished with 12.

Geibel Catholic 65, Riverside 64 – Anthony Nickischer scored 26 points, Evan Strimel added 19 and Geibel Catholic (6-3) held off a second-half comeback in the Burgettstown tournament. Logan Young scored 26, McCartney Plassmeyer added 14 and Cole Becker chipped in 12 for Riverside (6-3).

Mohawk 74, Altoona 62 – Bobby Fadden went off for 34 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Mohawk (7-1) at the Sharon tournament. Joey Nail added 18 and Drew Wrona had 13 for the Warriors. Chris Wagner scored 12 and Elliott McCuskey added 10 for Altoona.

Seton LaSalle 69, Winchester Thurston 60 – Gabe Gizzi and Charlie Crummie scored 18 points apiece and DayVaughn Williams added 16 to send Seton LaSalle (7-3) to victory at the Aquinas Academy tournament. Mike Hammerling led Winchester Thurston (7-3) with 21 points. Anthony Pipkin added 13 and Peyton Cowell contributed 12.

Springdale 82, Aquinas Academy 71 – Robby Simmen scored 25 points and Liam Dexter added 23 to lead Springdale (5-4) past the hosts at the Aquinas Academy tournament. Trevor Clark added 17 points for the Dynamos (5-4), who overcame a five-point halftime deficit. Sam Duer scored 24 and Clayton Frissora added 15 for Aquinas Academy (3-6).

Girls basketball

Baldwin 54, McKeesport 47 – Jacey Klingensmith scored 20 points and Baldwin (8-1) rallied from a two-point halftime deficit with 26 third-quarter points at the Betsy Invitational at Elizabeth Forward. Sunny Harper scored 14 points and Dannah Sebelia added 13 for McKeesport (5-5).

Elizabeth Forward 52, Gateway 33 – Kaelynn Settles had a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals to lead host Elizabeth Forward (7-3) to a win at the Betsy Invitational. Mia Sostaric added 14 points for the Warriors. Heaven Brooks led Gateway (2-6) with eight.

Fort Cherry 69, Avella 12 – Led by 18 points from Gianna Bianchini, 12 from Emily Pfender and 11 from Brooke Cornali, Fort Cherry (5-4) defeated Avella (3-7) at the McGuffey tournament.

Hempfield 70, Southmoreland 10 – Lily Houghtalen scored 17 points to lead Hempfield (8-2) past Southmoreland (1-10) at the Latrobe tournament. Ava Shipman added 15 points, Gabby Coccia chipped in 12 and Reagan Fisher finished with 10 for the Spartans.

McGuffey 62, Steel Valley 17 – Eliana Janovich scored 15 points, Maura Janovich added 13 and Hailey Rogers chipped in 10 to lead McGuffey (5-4) to a win at the tournament the Highlanders host. Taylor Kenney led Steel Valley (0-10) with five.
