The writer of the letter “Who cried for the children of Gaza?” (Dec. 3, TribLive) uses the metaphor of the shedding of tears to accuse various individuals and organizations of callousness and complicity in the destruction and suffering of the people of Gaza. I cannot help but notice that the shedding of tears was very selective. Where were the tears for the 1,200 men, women and children of Israel who were brutally slaughtered on Oct. 7? Where were the tears for the 250 men, women and children who were forcibly taken into Gaza, where they existed in horrific conditions, including rape and murder? Where were the tears for the people of Israel who were bombarded by thousands of rockets over the years? Perhaps some day when Hamas is gone real peace can be achieved and the shedding of tears will be more equitable.
