One of the WPIAL’s top kickers could be playing for one of the nation’s premier college programs next fall.
Upper St. Clair senior Jacobo Echeverria Lozano picked up a scholarship offer from Ohio State on Thursday.
Echeverria Lozano, a two-time all-conference selection, made 12 of 13 field-goal attempts and 46 of 48 extra points (two blocked) in the regular season this past fall. He helped the Panthers finish 10-3 and reach the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals.
In a 31-6 semifinal loss to Peters Township, he kicked field goals from 21 and 26 yards.
He averaged 67 yards on kickoffs and sent 60 of his 70 kicks into the end zone for a touchback. He also averaged 48.2 yards on 14 punts and placed 10 inside the 20-yard line.
A four-time Kohl’s national top performer, Echeverria Lozano is one of the top uncommitted kicking prospects in the nation.
He now holds seven Division I offers, including Arkansas State, Army, Mercyhurst, Navy, Robert Morris and UCLA.
Echeverria Lozano entered the season as Kohl’s 10th-ranked senior kicker in the nation. As a junior, he was 8 of 13 on field goals and made all 47 of his extra-point attempts.
Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding has exhausted his eligibility after the Buckeyes’ season came to an end Wednesday with a loss to Miami in the Cotton Bowl.
