Steelers fans have come to take colorful Mike Tomlin quotes for granted.

The greatest hits from the head coach include:

  • “The standard is the standard.”
  • “We do not live in our fears.”
  • “I want volunteers, not hostages.”

We got a new one after the Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens 26-24 Sunday night at Acrisure Stadium en route to an AFC North crown and playoff appearance.

Asked about the last-second field goal miss by Ravens kicker Tyler Loop, Tomlin uttered this response in his postgame press conference:

“You know how it is — if my aunt had male parts, she’d be my uncle,” he said.

Huh?

Not sure that we do know how it is, but here’s what else Tomlin said.

On winning the division:

“We’re AFC North champions, and that sounds good and feels good. But we didn’t come here for that. We came here for what lies ahead.”

On quarterback Aaron Rodgers:

“I have admired him from afar for a long time. It’s good to do it with him. This was the vision in the spring when we pursued him. That’s why you do business with a 41-, 42-year-old guy. He’s not only capable, man, he thrives in it.”

On the extra-point miss by Steelers kicker Chris Boswell and subsequent support from his teammates:

“We supported one another throughout. That’s what good teams do. And that’s what we did tonight.”

On the home crowd at Acrisure Stadium:

“It’s nothing like Acrisure and the friendly confines of Acrisure. I’m just thankful for the support that we have and the environment we had tonight. It was a legendary night in the history of this series, and so it’s humbling to be a part of it.”
