Penn-Trafford, Hempfield, Neshannock and Butler were at the top of their divisions after preliminaries at the PIAA competitive spirit championships Friday in Johnstown.

Penn-Trafford led the way in the 3A Small Varsity division. Thomas Jefferson, Canon-McMillan and South Fayette also advanced to Saturday’s finals and Plum moved on to the semifinals.

Hempfield was the top team in 3A Large Varsity. Baldwin and North Allegheny also made it to the finals while Seneca Valley and Norwin moved on to the semifinals.

Neshannock qualified in the top spot in the 2A Large Varsity division. Central Valley also advanced to the finals.

Butler, meanwhile, was the No. 1 team in qualifying in the Coed Varsity division.

Also, in 2A Large Varsity, Hampton and MAbridge advanced to the finals.
