A 4% Pennsylvania Turnpike rate increase as of Jan. 1. How is it that the Ohio Turnpike can charge only about $0.09 per mile and New York about $0.045 per mile with E-ZPass while Pennsylvania charges about $0.18 per mile with E-ZPass? Pennsylvania is about $0.35 per mile without E-ZPass while Ohio is about $0.13 per mile without E-Z Pass and New York about $0.08 per mile without.

Prior to 2023, the Pennsylvania Turnpike was required to pay $450 million per year to PennDOT to finance road/infrastructure improvements for state highways. After 2023 that amount was reduced to $50 million per year.

Why the toll increase and more so, why the great turnpike toll difference between Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York? This in addition to Pennsylvania having the fourth highest gasoline tax in the U.S.

Make it make sense.
