‘Stars, Stripes & Stories’
The Murrysville Recreation Department will host reenactors portraying three former U.S. presidents during “Stars, Stripes & Stories” at 7 p.m. Feb. 16.
George Washington (Bill Choby), Abraham Lincoln (Carl Swick) and Ulysses S. Grant (Ken Serfass) will discuss the successes and lessons that ultimately led to their presidencies.
It will be at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Ave. There is no cost to attend.
New meeting dates in Delmont
Delmont council has changed the time and date of its regular monthly meetings. In 2026, council will meet at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the borough building, 77 Greensburg St.

Active shooter training
Franklin Regional school officials and the Murrysville Police Department will host a Jan. 19 training session to help civilians respond to an active shooter event.
It will be at 6 p.m. in the Little Theater at Franklin Regional Middle School, 4660 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.
The training session is open to the public.
Turkey Cup raises more than $13,000
Franklin Regional primary and intermediate school students taking part in the district’s annual Turkey Cup Challenge raised more than $13,000 for the Westmoreland Food Bank.
The class at each building that raised the most money earned a party and attended the check presentation shortly before Thanksgiving.
At the primary school, Deborah Mochan’s first grade class raised $534.99, and at the intermediate school, Renee Sisco’s third grade class raised more than $670.
Library programs
The Delmont Public Library will host the following upcoming programs:
• Jan. 16: Cybersecurity presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Learn the basics of staying safe online, avoiding scams, malware and risky websites, along with how to create strong passwords. Bring a smartphone, tablet or laptop to follow along.
• Jan. 20 and 27: Learn how to use Google Drive and Google Sheets. Bring a laptop and Gmail login to learn the basics of web-based applications. The sessions will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Comedy fundraiser
The Sardis Volunteer Fire Company will host a Jan. 31 comedy night fundraiser at its social hall, 5205 Rocky Hill Lane in Murrysville.
The evening will feature headliner Larry XL and Trey McDonough. The event also will include a 50/50 raffle, games of chance, a gift basket auction and a food truck.
The $25 admission includes beer and the event is BYOB. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show is at 7 p.m.

Heating assistance program enrollment
The federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, has opened enrollment for the season, offering one-time cash grants to qualifying applicants to help with home heating bills or emergency repairs.
Households can apply through April 10 or until the funds are depleted.

Journalism scholarship
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania is accepting applications for its 20th annual Bob Fryer Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) and the club’s annual $2,500 scholarship for aspiring journalists.

AARP seeking tax-prep aides
The AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers to be trained for its tax aide program, the nation’s largest free volunteer-based tax preparation program.

The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.
