Municipalities in the Shaler Journal’s coverage area reorganized in January following November’s general election.

That included reelected and newly elected officials taking their offices, the selection of leadership and setting regular meeting dates for the year.

Etna

Seven officials, six elected and one appointed, have taken office on Etna Council.

Mayor Robert Tuñón was elected for the first time, after having been appointed in January 2024 to replace Tom Rengers following his death in December 2023.

Reelected to council were Alice Gabriel, Ward 1; Brice Everett Lynn, for a two-year term in Ward 1; Daniele Rothmeyer-McElhaney, Ward 2; and Colleen Schaefer, Ward 3.

Timothy Miller is new to council, representing Ward 3. He resigned from the borough’s zoning hearing board, where he had been chairman.

Abigail Seeley was appointed to represent Ward 2, replacing Edward V. Burke, who had not sought reelection and died in November. The seat will be up for election in 2027.

Gabriel, previously vice president of council, was named president, replacing Dave Becki, who had not sought reelection after serving 36 years on council.

First Ward Councilman Bradley Iannuzzi was named vice president.

Council meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the borough building, 437 Butler St.

Millvale

James Machajeski Jr. remains president of Millvale Council, while Albert Atkinson continues as vice president.

Both were reelected to council in November.

Melissa Mason is new to council. She replaces Emily Potoczny, who had not sought reelection.

All three were unopposed for election to council.

Mayor Brian Spoales also has been unopposed for reelection.

Council will regularly hold workshop meetings the first Tuesday of each month and voting meetings the second Tuesday, both beginning at 6 p.m. at the borough building, 501 Lincoln Ave.

Reserve

Commissioners Ron Neurohr, Ward 2, and Sharon Sweeney, Ward 4, were sworn in when the five-member board of commissioners reorganized on Jan. 7.

Both Democrats, they were unopposed for reelection in November.

Neurohr remains president of the board, while Commissioner Ed Vincent again was elected vice president.

Regular monthly commissioners meetings are held at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the municipal building, 33 Lonsdale St.

Shaler

Shaler Commissioners Conrad Wagner and James Boyle, representing Ward 4 and Ward 6, respectively, were sworn in Jan. 5 after being reelected in November.

Josh Fleitman is new to the board, representing the Ward 2. A Democrat, Fleitman defeated Republican incumbent David Mizgorski in November.

Fleitman, serving as an elected official for the first time, thanked the residents of his ward, his wife and family, and everyone else who helped him get elected.

“I hope to make you all proud, work hard and serve with integrity,” he said after being sworn in. “And to my colleagues on the board, I’m looking forward to working with all of you to make our community even better.”

Boyle was elected president of the board, replacing Commissioner David Shutter, who held the position for 16 years and remains a commissioner.

Wagner was named vice president, replacing William Cross, who also remains on the board.

Regular commissioners meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the municipal building, 300 Wetzel Road. Committee meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday every month except for June, July and August.
