A man accused of bringing drugs into Westmoreland County by train last year was sentenced Thursday to four to eight years in a state prison.
Brenden Fuentes, 23, who has had addresses in Latrobe and Philadelphia, pleaded guilty Thursday to possession with intent to deliver, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a court order.
He will be subject to one year of reentry supervision and probation.
Latrobe police, Westmoreland County detectives and agents from the state Attorney General’s Office worked together to arrest Fuentes in April shortly after he arrived in Latrobe via Amtrak from Philadelphia. Authorities said he was seen carrying two plastic bags as he left the train platform.
Those bags contained about an ounce each of carfentanil — a synthetic opioid meant for tranquilizing elephants and other large mammals — and crack cocaine, police said.
Fuentes’ supervision is being transferred to Philadelphia, according to the order. He was credited with time served since April 9.
