A man was taken to a hospital Friday afternoon suffering from smoke inhalation caused by a fire in his house along Mt. Pleasant Road in Hempfield, a township fire official said.
Hempfield Deputy Fire Chief Ben Rudd said he did not know the identity of the affllicted man, who was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
There was a “pretty significant amount of damage” from the fire, smoke and water to the main floor of the house at 869 Mt. Pleasant Road, Rudd said. He said the fire spread to the attic.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, which was reported at 4:30 p.m., Rudd said. He credited a quick response from several Hempfield and Greensburg fire companies with preventing the damage from being worse.
A state police fire marshal was called in to determine what caused the fire.
