Plum senior Owen Campbell was an Allegheny County High School wrestling champion as a freshman.
The past two seasons he has placed second.
He does not want to be a three-time runner-up. He would prefer a second gold medal.
So would Montour senior Rook Smith, who is one of three PIAA placewinners from 2025. Smith placed sixth in the PIAA. His only medal in the Allegheny County tournament was a bronze in 2024.
They will collide in the 152-pound semifinals at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Fox Chapel.
Campbell (115-35 all time, 20-4 this season) is seeded third at 152 pounds behind North Allegheny senior Griffin Reid and Smith.
“The goal is to win another county title,” Campbell said. “I am close to a lot of these wrestlers. I feel 152 is wide open.”
Campbell already has competed against the top Westmoreland County wrestlers: Franklin Regional junior Michael Ruane and Norwin freshman Noah Curran.
“I lost a couple close matches,” he said. “Those matches should help here.”
Campbell’s ultimate goal is to place at WPIALs and PIAAs. He also is closing in on becoming Plum’s second all-time winningest wrestler. He needs to reach 130.
Smith said he would love to add to his resume.
“I want to reach the top of the podium,” Smith said. “I want to reverse my earlier (7-5) loss to Griffin. Honestly, I must work harder if I want to win gold. I really do not have a go-to move.”
Both wrestlers posted easy wins on Day 1.
Campbell defeated West Mifflin’s Dom Watkins-Wise, 20-5; pinned North Hills’ Adam Overton in the first period; and whipped Avonworth’s Logan Krul, 13-2.
Smith (103-29 career, 20-1 this season) pinned Carlynton’s Thomas Gargis and Westinghouse’s Josh Gainer and blanked Highlands’ Bryce Tavarez, 16-0.
Returning champs reach semis
Quaker Valley senior Bruce Anderchak (121), Moon senior Cael Yanek (133) and Central Catholic senior Nezumiiro Green (189) advanced to the semifinals. The finals are scheduled for 4 p.m.
They look to become three-time winners.
Seeking their second victories were Shaler junior Anthony Jones (114) and Mt. Lebanon junior Evan Sala (133).
Sala won his matches to advance, but Jones fell to Baldwin’s Shamil Islamov, 4-2.
2025 PIAA placewinners move on
Smith and Highlands senior Javeon Chambers reached the semifinals. Both were PIAA placewinners last year.
Elizabeth Forward junior Lucas Boyer (152), the third PIAA placewinner in 2025, was scratched from the tournament.
