With the Martin Luther King Jr holiday coming up Monday, this truly is a weekend of district basketball with teams in action both Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day Ron Galbreath Classic begins Saturday at Westminster College.

Five district boys team hit the court Saturday:

• Neshannock takes on Nazareth Prep at 3 p.m.

• Moon battles District 10 Farrell at 4:30 p.m.

• WPIAL powers Lincoln Park and New Castle square off at 7:30 p.m.

On the girls side, Neshannock faces District 10 Grove City at 1:30 p.m.

The Sunday schedule involving District 7 teams includes two girls and two boys nonsection contests:

• Freeport girls against District 10 Mercer at 1:30 p.m.

• Seneca Valley girls square off with City League Allderdice at 4:30 p.m.

• Shenango battles District 10 Kennedy Catholic at 6 p.m.

• Central Valley takes on District 10 Sharon at 7:30 p.m.

MLK Showcase

Six games involving WPIAL teams will make up the MLK Showcase event set for Sunday at Neighborhood Academy.

Here is a rundown of the three girls contests:

• Clairton visits host Neighborhood Academy at 10 a.m.

• Brentwood takes on City League Westinghouse at 11:30 a.m.

• Monessen goes up against the Ellis School at 3 p.m.

The three boys games Sunday include:

• Washington taking on Clairton at 1 p.m.

• Monessen battles Fort Cherry at 5 p.m.

• Riverview visits Neighborhood Academy at 7 p.m.

Allegheny mat kings

Saturday is the second and final day of the annual Allegheny County Championships at Fox Chapel.

A total of 30 schools will be participating to determine the best boys wrestlers in Allegheny County.

The school scheduled to participate are Avonworth, Baldwin, Bethel Park, Carlynton, Central Catholic, Elizabeth Forward, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Highlands, Keystone Oaks, McKeesport, Montour, Moon, Mt. Lebanon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Penn Hills, Pine-Richland, Plum, Quaker Valley, Riverview, Shaler, South Allegheny, South Fayette, South Park, Thomas Jefferson, Upper St. Clair, West Mifflin and Woodland Hills.

Saturday also marks the second and final day of the Mercer VFW Tournament at Mercer.

Seven WPIAL teams are competing, including Avella, Beaver County Christian, Fort Cherry, Indiana, Ringgold, Summit Academy and Washington.
